ECARE Project successfully orchestrates Transnational Workshop to foster European aeronautics funding synergies
Launched in 2023, the ECARE project (European Clean Aviation Regional Ecosystems) is supported by the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking and its members, and funded by the European Union. It is led by a consortium of three major European aeronautical clusters - Aerospace Valley (France), Hamburg Aviation (Germany) and Campania Aerospace District (Italy); as well as by EASN-TIS, a Belgian SME specializing in dissemination and communication of aeronautical content and networking management.
The ECARE project aims to refine methodologies for funding synergies through testing and validation in three countries (France, Germany and Italy) distinguished by strong aeronautical expertise. These methodologies will foster complementarities of funding, providing valuable recommendations to the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking to optimize future funding strategies.
The ECARE project is privileged to announce the successful implementation of its transnational workshop hosted at the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking premises in Brussels on November 28, 2023. This strategic event convened key stakeholders in aeronautics funding from across Europe, marking a significant milestone in the project's mission to cultivate synergies in European funding endeavors and to accelerate aviation decarbonization.
Building upon preceding national workshops and interviews held in France, Germany, and Italy earlier in 2023, the Brussels workshop drew active participation from over 30 representatives from 9 countries. Attendees included stakeholders from various public funding authorities, aeronautics clusters and European business networks as well as representatives from the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking and from the European Commission.
The workshop started with an overall presentation of already achieved ECARE results: a new taxonomy encompassing all technologies to be addressed within the ECARE project, a deep mapping of existing and future calls, already funded projects and stakeholders’ competences in the three pilot countries. Then, three discussion groups were held in parallel, each addressing key questions linked to the financing synergy mechanism:
- Strategic alignment of policies and harmonization of processes to prepare synergies
- Communication & transparency actions to carry out for synergies promotion
- Operational pathways to be built for concrete synergies achievement
The participants shared their collective expertise, interesting ideas and experiences which led to a number of key elements that will be further explored by the ECARE consortium over the coming months to prepare the second round of national workshops, with the final aim to draw up synergies and implementation scenarios.
An overview of the ECARE platform, the project's flagship tool, was also unveiled at this transnational workshop. This platform will not only map European, national, and regional projects and funding opportunities but will also establish connections with regional Research and Innovation roadmaps. Additionally, it will serve as a dynamic forum for the exchange of information and partners identification.
The ECARE consortium states "The feedback and discussions from all participants have been instrumental in bringing forth new ideas and validating those already identified. Results obtained during the Transnational Workshop are very encouraging for the work to be carried out by the ECARE project in 2024."
