Main industry actors
At the present time the BBAA represents about 100 enterprises, with the leading companies being Rolls-Royce Germany. Rolls-Royce Germany is located in the capital region Berlin-Brandenburg in Dahlewitz. The development and assembly center was inaugurated in 1993. RRD is the production site of the BR700 and Pearl engine family and runs a maintenance line for Trent-Engines. The Dahlewitz site is also home to testing facilities for Rolls-Royce’s new power gearbox. Nowadays the site employs over 2000 people.
Main research institutes
The leading scientific and research institutions Technical University of Berlin with its Institute of Aerospace, Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau with its Department of Aeronautical Engineering/Aviation Management, Brandenburg University of Technology with its Department of Aircraft Engine Design and DLR Institute of Electrified Aircraft Propulsion are key drivers of innovation in the aerospace industry in the capital region.
The research and development facilities Fraunhofer IAP and Fraunhofer IPK also important actors in the region. The Research Division Polymeric Materials and Composites PYCO is a collaboration between Fraunhofer and the Chair of Polymer Materials of Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus (BTU) where chemists, physicists, engineers and technicians of Fraunhofer sites in Teltow and Wildau as well as BTU are developing highly crosslinked polymers (thermosets) for all applications with particular reference to aviation, IT-technology and instrumentation.
The Fraunhofer IPK (Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology) in Berlin conducts applied research and development in the areas of product development, production processes, maintenance of capital goods and product recycling, through to the design and management of manufacturing companies, i.e. the entire process spectrum of the manufacturing industry.
The IPK is divided into seven departments: Business Management, Virtual Product Development, Production Systems, Joining and Coating Technology, Automation Technology, Quality Management and Medical Technology. Close cooperation between the departments enables them to tackle even extremely complex problems. The BBAA also works very closely with chesco GmbH at BTU Cottbus, which promotes knowledge and technology transfer in the field of climate-friendly hybrid-electric drive systems.

Cluster management services for members
It has been the aim and task of BBAA to actively network stakeholders from business, science and politics and support the further development of the aviation and aerospace sector in Berlin and Brandenburg by selective measures. The focus is on expanding and maintaining the network of regional players, promoting sites, as well as initiating and supporting strategic partnerships and innovation projects.
BBAA uses its network of contacts to increase the visibility of the region’s stakeholders beyond the limits of Berlin and Brandenburg, and improve their international competitiveness.
The association therefore organises expert forums and conferences, and is in regular contact with political decision-makers at national, regional, and municipal levels. In addition, BBAA organises various events, such as the annual Aviation and Aerospace Day and the granting of the Lilienthal Award, thereby creating effective platforms for dialog between business people, scientists, and politicians. BBAA also offers its members and partners the opportunity to present innovative developments, products and services at major trade fairs and industry exhibitions, such as ILA.

Best practice of International collaborations of cluster management
The BBAA is member of the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) and maintains excellent relationships with clusters all over Germany and other European and International Clusters; especially with the Clusters Rhône-Alpes and ACStyria we are working closely together.
