ABROAD

Description

ABROAD, Activities & Business from Real Opportunities for Aerospace Developments, is a project that addresses the European Union (EU) COSME programme and originated from the EACP’s working group Internationalisation. It is an ambitious project aiming at the first implementation, testing and further development of the EACP’s joint internationalisation strategy.

While internationalisation has always been a relevant topic for the EACP, ABROAD seeks to develop a strategy through which the EACP partners can better network with specific target regions and receive even better support. This is crucial because clusters vary immensely in size and capacity and for some this is the only chance to develop ties and get into touch with new partners from target regions the world over. In order to guarantee the best possible service for their members, it is important to develop a good concept. ABROAD therefore proposes a programme that will deepen existing links between the EACP and foreign regions with the determination of inserting European SMEs into international value chains by fostering new international businesses or supporting the emergence of international R&T cooperations. –

Working Packages

Partners

  • Aerospace Valley (FR)
  • Hamburg Aviation (DE)
  • Skywinn (BE)
  • Eskisehir Aviation Cluster (TR)
  • Aragonian Aerospace Cluster (ES)
  • Niedersachen Aviation (DE)

Objectives

  1. Develop cluster-level frame of collaboration with 6 regions (down-select from the 9 in the proposal)
  2. SME-level actions within these collaborations (cluster members to internationals regions)
  3. Share benefit within EACP (invite other clusters to participate/invite int. regions to EACP regions
  4. Build cross partnerships collaborations

Process

Before project start:

  • Establishing a target list of interesting regions/clusters
  • Compendium of good cluster service
  • Attempt to nominate country experts
  • Idea of internationalisation has been installed within the EACP
  • Down-select 6 from initially 9 international regions of interests to the associated project partners
  • Stated in the proposal as we were assuming that RUE AERO would have started before ABROAD:

Orange = RUE AERO (or rather the ongoing work in the WG Internationalisation in EACP)
Yellow = ABROAD

Project Concept

  1. Clusters work as prospects & facilitators to fact-finding mission in every strategic target regions:
  2. Building trust at institutional level
  3. Knowing more details on mutual activities
  4. Understanding potential value chains with potential for European SMEs
  5. Trade build delegation involving clusters’ SMEs to target regions with meetings etc., also other way around from international partners to Europe
  6. Individual follow-up to each SME participating a mission (next steps and cluster support)
  7. Consortium will sustain the international network by proposing an EACP-ambassador approach
