Press Release: A New Concept of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA)

A New Concept of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) for General Aviation is designed in Malaga, Spain

The IMASAT research project (Integrated Modular Avionics for Small Air Transport) is part of the Clean Sky 2 European initiative, the biggest aeronautical research programme in Europe, which is led by the international engineering firm AERTEC Solutions, in partnership with Clue Technologies.

AERTEC Solutions will coordinate the project, leading the requirement gathering phase and verification tests of the flight control module and its subsequent integration at the facilities of the Clean Sky Topic Manager, a manufacturer of light aircraft, for the Small Air Transport range (SAT) and for a maximum of 19 passengers.

Clue Technologies, a company from Malaga with a technology base, specialising in the manufacture of electronic systems for the aerospace industry, will lead the design and development of the new modular computer.

23 July 2018 - AERTEC Solutions, the international engineering company that specialises in technologies applied to the aeronautical industry, coordinates the European IMASAT project (Integrated Modular Avionics for Small Air Transport) in partnership with Clue Technologies, a start-up from Andalusia that specialises in the development of avionics systems.

The results of the research work will be used to define and implement the Integrated Modular Avionics concept (IMA) for Small Air Transport (SAT) aircraft with a capacity for 6 to 19 passengers. The aim is to help the European industry adopt fly-by-wire systems (FBW) to reduce the weight of avionics systems, reduce the number of maintenance operations and improve safety by improving the human-machine interface and automatically help stabilise the aircraft.

The purpose of the IMASAT project is to provide a response to one of the goals of the Clean Sky 2 initiative, the most important European research programme for the development of technology that improves competitiveness in the industrial aeronautic sector, and also intends to reinvigorate the SAT market, encouraging the application of new and profitable technologies in the systems area for a future state-of-the-art small air transport aircraft. The project research work will focus on the design, manufacturing and classification of the new computer node, so it can be used as a flight control element in this SAT segment, providing a new approach for the architecture, design, software, production and certification of a new integrated modular avionics concept.

AERTEC Solutions leads the IMASAT project, in partnership with Clue Technologies, a company specialising in the manufacture of electronic systems for the aerospace industry. Both companies have their headquarters in Malaga and are partners of the cluster of aerospace systems of the Andalusia Technology Park.

AERTEC Solutions is a partner (Core Partner) of Clean Sky 2 participating in the PASSARO project. In this case, the aim is to use representative Aerostructure prototypes of both cabs and wings to demonstrate how a set of innovative technologies can be applied to the design, manufacturing and land testing phases.
